Which iPhones and iPads can run LiDAR Room Scanner?
LiDAR Room Scanner needs a device with a LiDAR sensor: iPhone 12 Pro / Pro Max or newer Pro models, and iPad Pro (2020) or newer. RoomPlan room scanning requires iOS 16 or later. Standard iPhones without LiDAR are not supported.
What file formats can I export?
3D scans export as USDZ (viewable in AR via Quick Look and compatible with Reality Composer, SketchUp, Rhino and Revit) plus raw RoomPlan JSON. Floor plans export as DXF for CAD tools like AutoCAD, and as PDF and SVG for printing, sharing and the web.
Does scanning happen on-device or in the cloud?
Everything runs on-device using Apple's ARKit and RoomPlan. Your scans never leave your iPhone unless you choose to share or export them, and no internet connection is required to scan.
How accurate are iPhone LiDAR scans?
iPhone LiDAR captures room geometry to within a few centimeters under good conditions, which is accurate enough for floor plans, furniture layout, real-estate listings and as-built documentation. For the most precise results, use the High-Fidelity capture mode and scan in even lighting.
What is the difference between LiDAR scanning and Object Capture?
LiDAR room scanning (RoomPlan) captures walls, doors, windows and furniture as editable parametric geometry — ideal for rooms and spaces. Object Capture guides you to take a turntable-style set of photos of a single object to reconstruct a detailed, textured 3D model. LiDAR Room Scanner supports both.
Is LiDAR Room Scanner free?
Yes — you can scan up to 3 rooms or objects per day, use High-Fidelity capture and the floor-plan editor, and export to USDZ and RoomPlan JSON for free, with no account.
