Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 26, 2026

Draft — review with legal counsel before launch. This policy describes how the app is designed to work and is provided for transparency. It has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer.

Who we are

Lidar Scanner ("the app", "we", "our", or "us") is operated by Kristmann Technologies, a sole proprietorship (Einzelunternehmen) and the data controller responsible for your personal data under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR / DSGVO):

Kristmann Technologies Inhaber (sole proprietor): Claudius Kristmann Michael-Ludwig-Rohrer-Straße 1/1 76437 Rastatt, Germany Email: kristmann.technologies@gmail.com

We respect your privacy and built Lidar Scanner to do as much as possible on your device. This policy explains what the app accesses, why, and the rights you have.

The short version

  • Lidar Scanner is a private, on-device 3D scanner. Your scans are created and processed on your iPhone or iPad and stay on your device unless you choose to export, share, or sync them.
  • There is no account to create and no server backend that stores your scans or personal data.
  • We use no analytics in the app by default and set no advertising trackers.
  • Subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store — we never receive your payment details.

Device permissions we request

The app asks for the following permissions through iOS. iOS only grants them after you allow them, and you can change or revoke them at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security (or in the app's entry in the Settings app).

  • Camera: Required for LiDAR room scanning (ARKit RoomPlan) and Object Capture. The camera and LiDAR sensor feed are processed in real time on your device to build the 3D scan. We do not record or upload a separate camera stream.
  • Location (While Using the App): Optional. When enabled, your approximate location and true-north compass heading are used to geo-tag a scan and correctly orient its floor plan, and to show a reverse-geocoded address for the scan. Location is requested only while you are actively scanning. If you decline, scanning still works — scans are simply not geo-tagged.

What stays on your device

  • Your scans and exports. LiDAR scans, generated 3D models (USDZ), floor plans, RoomPlan JSON, textured meshes, and Object Capture results are stored locally in the app on your device. We have no access to them.
  • Scan metadata. Names, dates, location tags, compass headings, and measurements you create are stored alongside your scans on the device.

All scanning and 3D reconstruction happens on-device and offline — no internet connection is required to scan, and your scans are never sent to us.

When data leaves your device — only if you choose

  • Export & share. When you export or share a scan (for example as USDZ, RoomPlan JSON, DXF, PDF, or SVG) the file goes wherever you send it using Apple's standard iOS share sheet — for example to another app, AirDrop, email, or cloud storage. That destination's own privacy terms then apply.
  • iCloud sync (optional). If you enable iCloud, your own scans may be synced to your personal iCloud account so they are available across your devices and backed up. This data is stored in your Apple iCloud account under Apple's terms; we cannot access it. You can turn iCloud off in iOS Settings.

Subscriptions and payments

Lidar Scanner offers an optional Pro subscription. All purchases, billing, and renewals are processed by Apple through the App Store and StoreKit. We do not receive or store your name, card number, or other payment details — those are handled by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy.

To check whether your subscription is active and unlock Pro features, we use RevenueCat, a third-party service acting as our data processor. RevenueCat processes your App Store transaction/receipt data and a randomly generated app-user identifier on our behalf; it does not receive your name or payment details. This is the only subscription status information we use, and it is used solely to deliver the Pro features you purchased.

Analytics and our website

  • In the app: We use no analytics or tracking by default.
  • On our website (not the app): Our marketing website may optionally use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-friendly, cookieless measurement tool that records only aggregate, non-identifying traffic statistics and sets no cookies. It is disabled unless explicitly enabled and never runs inside the app.

Legal bases for processing (Art. 6 GDPR)

Where the GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases: performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) to provide the app's core scanning features and to deliver a subscription you purchase; your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) for optional features such as location geo-tagging, which you grant through the iOS permission prompt and can withdraw at any time; and our legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) in measuring aggregate, non-identifying website traffic where website analytics are enabled.

Data retention

Because your scans live on your device, you control how long they are kept — you can rename or delete them at any time in the app's scan library, and deleting the app removes its local data. We do not hold copies on a server.

Your rights under the GDPR

As a data subject you have the right to: access your personal data (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure / "right to be forgotten" (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20), and to object to processing (Art. 21). Because we do not operate an account system or store your scans on our servers, most of this data is already under your direct control on your device. For any request concerning data we do control, contact us at kristmann.technologies@gmail.com.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR), for example the supervisory authority of the German federal state in which you reside. A list of German authorities is available at bfdi.bund.de.

Children's privacy

Lidar Scanner is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can address it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves or the law changes. We will post the new version on this page and update the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be highlighted in the app or on our website.
